ABOUT

Kimberly D. Bracy, is a native of Roanoke Rapids, NC now residing in Portsmouth, VA. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations with a minor in English from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T). Kimberly has worked in various Public Relations capacities for over 27 years. She has received advanced Public Relations training at Capital Communications, Raleigh, NC, Ketchum Public Relations, Atlanta, GA and The Ingram Group, Nashville, TN. Currently, she is employed with New Horizons Regional Education Centers in Hampton, VA, as a Public Relations Specialist/Clerk of the Board. She also services as the Chief Executive Officer of Bracy Consulting, a full-scale Public Relations and Marketing Firm. Additionally, she has held various corporate communications positions with GTE, Halifax Regional Medical Center, International Paper and Kapstone Paper and Packaging. She is actively involved in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, The Links, Inc. and serves as a mentor to several local high school and college students. Bracy has also served in various capacities including vice chair of the Halifax County Department of Social Services Board, Board of Directors for Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate, Weldon City Schools Student Health Advisory Committee, Roanoke Valley Chamber Education Committee, Roanoke Canal and Museum and Commission and Weldon Recreation Advisory Committee.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Public Relations Specialist/Clerk of the Board, 05-2019-Present

New Horizons Regional Education Centers, Hampton, VA

  • Writes, designs, and produces all internal and external publications and content, including digital and print communications.

  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with news media at local, state, and national levels; maintains a media contact list and media coverage; answers news media queries and coordinates appropriate method/timing of responses; writes and edits public statements, media releases, and public reports involving the organization’s activities, including sensitive/confidential issues

  • Produces speeches/key messages for the Executive Director and schedules interviews with media outlets and public speaking engagements.

  • Produces videos promoting the organization’s services and announcements

  • Manages the office's social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  • Provides information to the media and public regarding New Horizons’ programs, policies, procedures, or other issues in accordance with public records laws.
